This floating dock extension in Mentone, AL 35948 was constructed using pressure treated lumber and 9 encapsulated “top mount” floats measuring 16 x 36 x 48.
There are two different types of encapsulated floats. The most common is the “flange mount” which is attached to the dock with lag screws run from the underside of the flange into the lumber above or bolted to the steel structure above through prefabricated holes in the top flange of the float. The “top mount” float is attached by running lag screws down from the framing member into a reinforced band around the top outer edge of the float. Both floats serve the same purpose but one may work better for a particular situation.
