Universal Foam Products recently supplied EPS29 Geofoam for a swimming pool renovation project at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. The renovation involved reducing the pool depth from 13 feet to 8 feet, using Geofoam blocks to fill the lower section and decrease the overall weight of the concrete infill placed above.
To improve installation efficiency, the EPS29 blocks were factory cut to various sizes, minimizing on-site modification and allowing for precise placement and faster installation.
This application demonstrates how EPS29 Geofoam provides an engineered lightweight fill solution—offering high compressive strength and significant load reduction on underlying structures. Traditional concrete weighs approximately 150 pounds per cubic foot, while EPS29 Geofoam weighs only about 1.8 pounds per cubic foot—a dramatic reduction that decreases load on the pool structure and existing building.
