The façades above both entrances to the Caldecott Tunnel in northern California were constructed using EPS46 Geofoam form liners to create the intricate design. Because the EPS46 Geofoam has a high compression strength the contractor was able to pour up to 9’ of the façade at a time. Large EPS panels were constructed in the factory using sophisticated hot wire computerized cutting equipment. They were then hard coated so the concrete would have a smooth finish.
