EPS Geofoam is a lightweight, rigid foam material, that is used as void fill to lighten the load on a structure. EPS Geofoam is approximately 100 times lighter than most soil, and at least 20 to 30 times lighter than other lightweight fill alternatives. This project located in Gaithersburg, MD was the redevelopment of a golf course. The contractor used large EPS19 Geofoam Blocks to lessen the weight on top of a 20” waterline pipe to avoid possible future damage.
After installing the first layer of EPS Geofoam blocks, Universal Foam Products GripMaxx™ steel gripper plates, were set into place before the second layer of blocks. These gripper plates have steel “teeth” on both sides, which help eliminate any lateral movement between the layers.
