This project was from the Georgia Dept. of Transportation District 4 office in Tifton, GA. The customer utilized these 1 lb density 6” x 8” EPS foam blocks to create a 6” masonry wall brick ledge. The overall foundation wall had to be 16” wide at the base and the customer had to build in the brick ledge, which is where the EPS foam was a perfect use for the application. There are several ways to do this in formwork, however the EPS Foam is easy to install and remove after the formwork is broken down.
EPS Foam comes in different densities, from 1 lb to 3 lb per cubic foot. The 3 lb EPS foam has compressive strength of 60 psi. EPS block-outs are lightweight and very sturdy. These blocks can be cut into all shapes and sizes for other various block out applications such as bridge windows and footings for awnings and canopy posts.
