Large precut blocks of EPS15 Geofoam were used as lightweight forms for
this bridge project in Camden, NJ. Using a system patented by Universal
Foam Products for adhering plywood to EPS, the contractor was able to
screw 3/4″ plywood to 2×4’s inserted in precut slots in the EPS blocks.
After the concrete was installed the EPS and plywood forms were removed.
EPS is much lighter than steel or fabricated wood forms for this type of
application, making it easier to work with. It has multiple applications
in bridge construction including form liners for bridge columns and
horizontal bridge supports, bridge window block-outs, flute fillers for
metal bridge decking and internal void fill for large vertical and
horizontal concrete structures.
