This homemade floating dock in Humble, Texas was built to last. Three blocks of 1 pound density EPS 16 inch x 36 inch x 36 inch were used for flotation. A cubic foot of EPS will float 60 pounds, so these floats will handle 720 pounds with half of the 16” height out of the water.
To keep crabs and fish from nibbling on the EPS they protected the blocks with galvanized wire mesh and used aluminum angles on all of the corners and edges to eliminate any damage from the wire. The protected EPS blocks were attached to the salt treated wood frame deck. Four galvanized pipe holders were attached to help keep the dock in place.
This dock should be around for a very long time.
