In bridge construction, EPS flute fillers are often used to help lighten the weight of the bridge. The trapezoid shaped pieces of .9 lb EPS (which is the typical density used) are placed in the flutes of the steel bridge decking prior to installing rebar, woven wire, etc. The EPS flute fillers prevent concrete from getting into the flutes of the decking, thereby making the finished bridge lighter. Numerous states require the use of flute fillers in the construction of bridge projects. This particular project is a bridge crossing the Missouri River in Washington, Missouri.
