EPS 12 Geofoam Was Used to Create an Expansion Barrier

EPS 12 Geofoam was used to create an expansion barrier around multiple buried pressure vessels at a new Liquified Natural Gas Facility under construction in the US. The 12 psi eps foam, which weighs just .7 pounds per cubic foot, was custom cut to form pieces as large as 15’ x 14’ x 3’, contoured to the shape of the tanks components, to allow for expansion and contraction at critical locations around the tanks. Due to the low density of the of the expanded polystyrene foam it will compress if pressure builds between the tank and the surrounding earth, protecting the tanks, after they are buried. Due to the design complexity of the foam parts and the contractors timeline, Universal Foam Products had the material shipped from two different manufacturing facilities.
