Universal Foam Products supplied custom EPS foam flute fillers for the LA-1 bridge project in Louisiana. The EPS foam was precision cut to match the flute profile and inserted directly into the bridge forms before concrete placement. By filling the flutes with lightweight EPS foam, the project was able to reduce overall structural load while still maintaining the integrity of the form system and meeting all state concrete specification requirements.
The overall bridge project spans approximately 18 miles, with the section shown representing the start of the second 9-mile stretch. The lightweight nature of the EPS foam helped simplify handling and installation in the field while providing a cost-effective solution for this large-scale infrastructure project.
