This custom tide gate headwall precast project was used for a Massachusetts DOT infrastructure upgrade in the city of Wellfleet. To meet the demands of tidal flow and ensure structural integrity in a coastal setting, the design required highly accurate formwork. Universal Foam Products supplied a crucial component—a 42-1/4" diameter by 18" thick cylindrical piece of EPS (Expanded Polystyrene). The EPS cylinder was precisely cut to create a smooth, round opening for the tide gate, simplifying the forming process. EPS was chosen for its lightweight properties, ease of handling, and ability to meet the shape and durability requirements of the concrete pour. The finished headwall was precast offsite and delivered ready for seamless installation.
