EPS19 geofoam was used in construction of the judge’s elevated platform in this courtroom renovation project in Memphis, Tennessee. The contractor was required to use concrete for the revised platform for fire code, but since the courtroom was located on an upper floor of the building they also needed to keep it as light as possible. The
EPS19 geofoam weighs just 1.15 pounds per cubic foot and has a compression strength of 840 pounds per square foot at 1% deformation, making it the ideal material for this application. The contractor decided to purchase 48” x 96” blocks and do the cutting on site with a geofoam hot wire kit.
