Expanded Polystyrene Foam, or as some people refer to it as EPS Foam, is a great source for insulation. This project used 1.8 lb Virgin EPS 2” x 48” x 96” sheets, which has an R-value of 8.7, under the concrete slab, and against the footer of the house. By installing insulation vertically along the foundation wall as well as the floor, the customer creates a thermal barrier between the outside and inside.
The customer also used radiant floor heating which helps tremendously along with the Expanded Polystyrene foam insulation. With the combination of the EPS foam and the radiant floor heating, the customer stated that their heating bills are less than $100 each month.
